Saigon Destination

Q: Dearest Friend,

Am and my family will be travelling to HCMC in April 2012. Now, I’m in the midst structure the self-itinerary. As such, I would highly appreciate some ideas on an attractive places to visit from yours and we will be in HCMC for 6days.
Also, wish that your could input me the reliable local tour agent, hotel which is convenience for day and night shopping too.
Thank you very much!

A:Ho Chi Minh itself is very interesting to wander around in. The War Museum is fascinating but disturbing. There is lots of street life to see, crowds of bicycles, motorbikes, food stalls. The History Museum was also quite interesting as was the cathedral. You can do some brilliant, cheap day trips from Ho Chi Minh. I would strongly recommend a trip to the Cu Chi tunnels – a tunnel system built by the Viet Cong to help them hide from the Southern Vietnamese and US forces and from where they could launch surprise attacks. A day trip to Mytho and the Mekong Delta is also wonderful. Mytho had an absolutely fascinating vibrant and colorful market.

A: Vung Tau is about a 4 to 5 hour bus ride from Saigon. Or you can take the hi-speed hydrofoil boat for under $10 per person. Takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Leaves Saigon about 8 in the morning down at the waterfront. I don’t know the schedule for sure but you can find out at the ticket office the day before you want to ride. Haven’t been to Vung Tau since 1971 so I don’t know what is interesting there. Something about a small mountain and seafood should be very good. Mui Ne is another choice, about the same distance by bus. I’ve been to Mui Ne about 5 times in the last 5 years and the beaches are not very good but the seafood along the main road into the resort area is excellent.
