Q: Hi! I will be going to Ho Chi Minh in March 2012. I plan to travel solo and I am now researching for my itinerary. Any suggestions on where to stay (cheap hotels or inns for backpackers)and where to go? Thank you so much! It will be my first time to travel to Ho Chi Minh.
A: There are plenty of good quality, clean, budget hotels for backpackers in Ho Chi Minh City. Last year we paid $6 a night at a sister hotel of Madame Xuc. I can’t remember the name – it was located in a lane off Cong Quynh, very close to the small fruit and vegetable market held daily. The receptionist was a niece of the owners. She was tremendously helpful. The most beautiful grandmother lived up stairs.
Plenty to do in Ho Chi Minh.
The hotel we stayed at was walking distance to Ben Thanh market, Bui Vien, 100 mteres down the road has great eateries and tourist shops – though the market is better. Don’t forget to go to the restoration museum.
